Overview

The BCMP Scholars - Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) at Harvard Medical School's Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology (BCMP) is an intensive internship that immerses you in both laboratory and computational research. You'll work on cutting-edge projects, guided by experienced faculty mentors who are leaders in their fields. You'll be part of a vibrant community, working on innovative research that advances scientific knowledge.

Throughout the 10-week program, you'll gain hands-on experience and participate in professional development activities designed to enhance your skills and prepare you for the future. From graduate school information sessions to seminars on the latest scientific advancements, every aspect of the program is geared towards your growth.

You'll also receive a stipend to support your journey, and the program culminates in a seminar session where you'll present your research findings. This comprehensive experience prepares you for graduate school and future careers in biomedical research.

Our department focuses on elucidating molecular mechanisms in biology and disease. Our research emphasizes molecular, structural, and chemical approaches to understanding biological form and function.

Research Opportunities

Nearly 100 undergraduate students from various colleges and universities have successfully completed our program. Many of these alumni have gone on to pursue graduate studies at Harvard and other prestigious institutions, with some continuing to complete MD or MD/PhD degrees.
